Melissa and Alex are a fun, unique and hilarious couple that I had the honor of meeting and photographing. I was super excited to photograph their wedding along with my trusty sidekick, Haley. I have passed Centenary United Methodist Church downtown Winston Salem many times and always appreciated it’s beauty and longed to photograph a wedding there. I love the fact that the church is set amongst the urban backdrop of the city so there are so many outside options for photographs. The architecture of the church itself speaks to me as well. I adore the front doors, arches and the lighting on the inside.
Melissa and her girls started their day at The Glass Door Salon which is a fabulous place to get hair and makeup not only because they are amazing but because I adore the decor inside, the bank of windows that creates some sweet light and just the general feel. After hair and make-up they made their way to Centenary to get dressed for the ceremony. Melissa gave the most amazing pep talk before getting dressed. Think locker room pep talks but instead of pumping people up about a game she was pumping her bridesmaids up about not falling….you had to be there to really appreciate it but it was hilarious.
The ceremony was super sweet and once over we headed outside to capture some fun bridal party shots and bride and groom portraits. We walked from the church to the reception site, The Millennium Center, capturing fun downtown shots along the way. The Millennium Center is one of my all time favorite venue sites. The historical appeal, amazing architecture, the amazing natural light in the front area are just a few of my favorite spots.
